Local Resident is Named 2010 Chicago Senior

Marilyn Houlberg, a lifetime resident of the 25th Ward, has been named “2010 Chicago Senior” for her outstanding contributions to the community. Houlberg received her BFA and MAT from the University of Chicago and has developed a deep passion for both art and culture in Haiti. Houlber has parlayed her knowledge and is considered a leading expert in the art and culture of Haiti.

Since the 1960s, Houlberg has traveled numerous times to Haiti and became greatly involved with the culture which has manifested in her various exhibitions and publications.

Today, Houlberg stands as an inspiration for numerous members of the artist community, as well as an influential member who supports many young artists. In addition to the work done in her own community, she also serves as a director on the Advisory Board for the Art Creation Foundation for Children (ACFC), an organization that strives to provide relief for the children of Haiti by providing food, medical care, education, and other basic necessities.

It is because of her understanding and passion for both the arts and service to the community that Marilyn Houlberg has been named the “2010 Chicago Senior.” Her exemplary leadership and dedication makes her a role model for the 25th Ward as well as the entire city of Chicago.
