(Chicago) – 25th Ward Alderman Danny Solis was elected chairman of the Chicago City Council's Hispanic Caucus today.
In a vote among Hispanic aldermen following today’s council meeting Ald. Solis was chosen by his fellow Hispanic city council members to replace 22nd Ward Ald. Ricky Munoz for the chairmanship.

Ald. Solis’ experience enables him to promote strong representation of the Hispanic community in the new city council and with the new mayor. Solis will also play a major role in the upcoming ward remap based on 2010 U.S. Census figures.

Today the Black and Hispanic Caucus read a resolution calling on a Chicago Casino to enhance investment in Chicago's infrastructure.

Many of Chicago’s elected officials want to use this new revenue to make much needed infrastructure improvements to the city. A significant portion of the City’s infrastructure needs immediate repair and improvement, including:

• More than 600 miles of water main on the City of Chicago's local distribution system which are over 100 years old;
• 22 CTA stations across the City are over 90 years old;

Ald. Danny Solis will participate in the annual Bike the 25th Ward with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) Commissioner Gabe Klein this Sunday, September 25, 2011. Ald. Solis hosts this event annually to tour the 25th Ward alongside residents on bicycle. The trail for the event covers 5 miles within the 25th Ward and touches Pilsen, Chinatown, University Village and Little Italy. Registration for the event begins at 9 AM and the ride kicks off at 10 AM at Harrison Park 1824 S. Wood St.

Danny Solis in kicking off the last weekend before the aldermanic runoff in the 25th Ward at World Wide Produce at the Chicago International Produce Terminal. In attendance were over 300 supporters of Ald. Solis including Senator Dick Durbin, Ald. Bob Fioretti, and Ald. Joe Moreno.

Senator Durbin addressed the crowd giving a rousing support speech for Ald. Solis.
