On the Issues - Crime and Safety
I have worked hard to develop close relationships with
the police commanders that serve the 25th ward. At the same
time, my work with community groups, particularly The
Resurrection Project, has made it possible for our community
to help the Chicago Police Department follow through on its
commitment to community policing.
One of my proudest achievements of the past year has been
the requisition and installation of POD cameras on the
Ward’s most dangerous blocks. We have seen a reduction in
gang-related activity in all of the areas where we have
installed POD cameras.

The 25th Ward is safer now that in has been in my memory,
and we are poised to make gang activity a thing of the past.
I am also working closely with a citywide police task force
that targets gangs who’s operations move across ward
boundaries and I believe my record with CPD is a large part
of their desire to include me in that project.
Community Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS)
The partnership between police and community is the
foundation of Chicago's own philosophy of community
policing, known as CAPS -- the Chicago Alternative Policing
Strategy. I believe CAPS is one of the most important
resources for Chicago residents. That is why I have made it
a point to attend or to send a representative of my staff to
every CAPS meeting in the 25th Ward.
I strongly encourage you to attend CAPS meetings to learn
about the activities in your neighborhood and to develop
relationships with your beat officers who patrol your
streets.
